About Us

Vital Narrative Press is the brainchild of Gregory Hedgepeth II, a writer who was fed up with the same stereotypical, poorly-written, carbon copy stories constantly force-fed to readers through mainstream media. After trying his hand at self-publishing in 2013, he decided to take it a step further and create a full-fledged independent imprint.

Over the next two years through mentorship and market research, he learned the ins and outs of the industry and embarked on a journey devoted to minority storytellers to create narratives for and about people of color.

While there is an obvious commitment to its readership, VNP also prides itself on its business practices which involve a 50/50 profit-share with all of its creators instead of the industry standard of 85/15. In addition to it being more financially viable for the authors, it also allows for a partnership where the input of the authors is included in every aspect of the vision from book covers to promotional plans. This is done for two reasons: 1) to secure a mutually amicable relationship and 2) the creator can maintain control of their brand and build their platform, which is one of the company's main ideals.

We are committed to enhancing the reading and writing experience for all minority creators throughout the country and beyond.
